Dr. Bruce Byrd stated as a 10 year old that his career goals were to be a veterinarian and a professional trumpet player; he has accomplished both. He received his Bachelors of Music Education from University of South Mississippi in 1977 and went to work as a middle school band director in his home town of Lucedale, Mississippi. He also played trumpet professional in dance bands, weddings, and the like in Mobile, Alabama and the Gulf Coast area.
As the years went by he decided to pursue his second career as a veterinarian and graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 and opened Magnolia Animal Clinic in Lucedale, Mississippi, his home town. After 17 years and ready for a change, Dr. Byrd sold to an eager buyer in 2014 and moved to Colorado.
Dr. Byrd fell in love with the Rocky Mountains with his first visit to Colorado in his 20's and actually worked one year in Telluride, Colorado as a band director in 1985. As he transitions into retirement he's having a great time in Mancos, Colorado working as a part-time small animal veterinarian providing an invaluable service to the community with a great staff and associate while enjoying the beautiful four corners area.
